Τζιτζιφιογκος Περιστέρι

Last March (2018), at 200 meters from Peristeri metro station, there appeared a wine bar called.. “Gigifioggos”. We were intrigued by the name alone and seeing as we were nearby we decided to visit it. Passing by, what wins you over right away is its truly impressive decoration, with an atmosphere that transports you to the mid 1900’s (to which, artist Elena Karagianni, has also contributed).
About the menu: Long list of wines (77 to be exact) from many different countries– chosen by V.Papadodpoulos– cheese and cured meat platters, and dishes prepared by “Gigifioggos” chef, Aristea Vlachou. Another big plus is the music, which successfully bridges Sinatra with Kokkotas and Shirley Bassey with Flery Dadonaki, without sounding discrepant.
“Gigifioggos” is a special kind of place. It can be classified as “bistro”, but what makes it stand out from all other shops of this kind is that the attention to detail (which is ultimately what makes the difference and gives a shop its character) isn’t pretentious, but instead flows out of people and staff who love what they do and believe in it. If you find yourselves in Peristeri, “Gigifioggos” is a place that you must visit –at least– once.
